Swim Champions Fitter and Faster Tour
Olympic silver medalist Lacey Nymeyer will be getting in the water with kids 6 to 18 for a swim clinic in Davis Saturday October 16th at 9am. Parents and coaches free. Kids will get tips and drills from Lacey and a photograph wearing Lacey's medal.

FOLSOM RENAISSANCE FAIRE

The Magic & Pageantry
Returns to Beautiful Folsom City Lions Park October 16th and 17th. This year's Folsom Renaissance Faire will feature four stages of continuous entertainment, action packed shows, Music, Dancing, Jesters, 900 costumed actors, Shakespearian vignettes, expertly staged battles, storytelling for children and adults, archery tournaments and much more. Shop over 100 merchants selling a wide array of arts and crafts, one of a kind jewelry items, woodcrafts, artwork, ceramics, clothing, historic weapons and leather goods. And to top it all off, a hard hitting joust. - This is a place to be! Over the weekend the Folsom City Lions Park will be transformed to a delightful Elizabethan town filled with myriad characters and vignettes resembling those of Shakespeare’s plays we so dearly love. In addition, over 900 costumed entertainers and over 100 shopkeepers and artisans will add to the ambiance of the Faire. The Festival will be the ultimate Renaissance bash, a lively Dionysian party, where the guests enjoy turkey legs, exotic food, and drink as they banter with the myriad performers filling the streets. The event sports one-of-a-kind shows, music, and comedy.
 Attractions for all Ages! 3 stages filled with amazing shows, magical and acrobatic acts Kids games, shows, face painting, story tales Myth and Magic, a two men comedy and magic show Fowl Tales, a one man, three parrot and one dog extravaganza performance that charms and entertains the whole family. The Merry Praynksters, a country dancing group, will whirl and wind among the patrons with their period dancing while Danse Macabre will progress through the streets enthralled in their dance with death their hunting music and attire leaving patrons in awe.

ACORN DAY

California State Indian Museum, 2618 K Street Sacramento


A great way to celebrate the autumn season is by visiting the California State Indian Museum. An educational and fun-filled day for the entire family for Acorn Day, Saturday, October 16th featuring the acorn, a traditional dietary staple of California Indians. Diana Almandariz, renowned Maidu interpreter and traditional skills specialist, will be on hand to demonstrate the time-honored practice of acorn mush preparation at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  The acorn, a seed of the oak tree, was plentiful and nutritious food for California Indians living throughout the state of California. Acorn mush and flat breads will be available for sampling. Children can participate in Native games, traditional arts & crafts, and hands-on table activities. Artifacts on display in the museum include basketry, beadwork, clothing, and exhibits about the ongoing traditions of various California Indian groups. A DAY WITH OLAF

Paul Del Bene, a César Chávez Elementary parent, will perform A Day with Olaf, a physical comedy in the tradition of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Jaque Tati. Mr. Del Bene brings more than 27 years experience as a performer, director and teacher to the stage in Davis. In recent years, he has performed in the Vorstadt Variete, Compagnia Teatro Dimitri, and GOP Variete shows in Europe.
The show incorporates elements of theater, circus, physical comedy, and dance to create an evening of old fashioned fun suitable for all ages. Check out his website at http://www.imafool.com/.

PUMPKIN TRAIN

Family Train ride to Uncle Ray's Pumpkin Patch in West Sacramento. A variety of entertainment is offer during the train ride. At the pumpkin patch, enjoy a tractor ride, hay bale maze and picking out your complementary pumpkin. The entire trip lasts about 2.5-3 hours.


TARGET FAMILY CONCERT SERIES

The Sacramento Philharmonic's first of two Target Family Concerts for 2010-11 season takes place Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Sacramento Community Center Theater. On the program is Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Doors open at 1 p.m. for pre-concert activity, with the one-hour concert to follow at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $12 (price includes $3 facility fee). This is a free admission event for children 12 & under, but they are required to have a ticket for entrance. Call the Box Office (808-5181) or the Philharmonic (732-9045) for more information on obtaining tickets.
