MOPS is for all mothers with at least one child not yet in school and expectant mothers. MOPS celebrates motherhood and exists to meet the needs of all moms, recognizing that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship, filled with unique needs & challenges. Davis MOPS welcomes all women, from those currently pregnant to moms who have children in preschool, from Yolo County, Dixon, Winters, Sacramento and beyond.
Friends and drop-ins are always welcome!

Resource Library:
Contains an extensive collection of books, audiotapes, CD's and  video tapes on parenting issues, child development (birth through teens), activities to do with children, choosing child care, special needs, and much more.

Annual Fee: $20 (prorated to $10 after January 1st)
You can check out to three toys and three books/videos at a time.
Toys and books may be checked out for a three week period.

Crankin' the Series: Climbing Competition 
CRANKIN’ THE SERIES - CLIMBING COMPETITION at 6:30pm (doors open at 5:45pm for registration)

The series starts Friday Nov. 5th and finishes March 11th. 
Individual Competition
- Participants can compete as individuals in one of our 5 categories (Kids, Recreation, Intermediate, Advanced and Masters (45 years and up)).  There will be mens and womens divisions for each of the categories.
-There will be prizes for the top three competitors of the night in each category on all three nights. (November 5th, January 14th, and March 11th)
-Scores will be tallied throughout the series to determine the Series Champions during the last competition on March 11th.
-There will be finals for the top three series competitors in the men’s and women’s Advanced groups and Masters to determine the winner for each category.

Team Competition
-Teams are made up of Three people.
-Each team must have one participant from each of the three categories: Advanced, Intermediate and Recreation. (If a participant is from the masters or kids category then they will be assigned a category of Rec/ Intermediate/Advance ONLY for the Team competition).
-Team scores will be based on the ranking of each team member within their own category for that night.
For example: The participants who earn the rank of 1st in Rec/ Intermediate/ Advanced will all receive 1 point for the team.
-Goal of the teams is to accumulate the LOWEST SCORE throughout the Series.
*Ties are acceptable for Series Team Champion

LEGENDS OF SLEEPY HOLLOW

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is a perfect Halloween treat. This family-friendly version of the spooky tale is presented with all the thrills, chills and laughs to keep young audiences on the edge of their seats.

The storybook tale revolves around the three main characters; the bumbling, awkward schoolteacher, Ichabod (Drew Thomsen), the coquettish Katrina (Hallie Tobia), and Ichabod’s brutish rival, Brom Bones (Jason Goldman). There are also four storytellers (Calvin Davey, Whitney Hunt, Scarlett Kaufusi, and Katheryn Ostergard) who narrate the tale and take on several characters in the story. This adaptation remains dedicated to the spirit of the original work yet expertly involves young people with lots of suspense and comedy saving the best for last – the ride of the headless horseman (Steve Cairns). The show is directed by Crissi Cairns Kessler with stage management by Steve Cairns.

Audience members are encouraged to come to the Saturday matinee in costume for a special treat and to attend  “Trick or Treat on Main Street” immediately after the show at 3 p.m. Join your friends and neighbors downtown for a fun, safe and entertaining trick or treat venue. Participating business with candy will be marked by  black and orange balloons. 

The Main Street Trick or Treat event will run from 3-6:30 p.m.

All reserved tickets for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” are $5 each. Tickets are available at the box office at 340 2^nd St. Monday through Friday from 10-1 and 2-5, by calling 666-9617, or at the door.

 This year's Halloween-themed festival features fun-filled activities and harvest specialties for the whole family. Davis Farm to School, a project of Davis Farmers Market Foundation, is sponsoring the annual Avenue of Scarecrows Silent Auction and Fundraiser. There will be more than 50 scarecrows for visitors to pose with for photos. The highest bidders at the Scarecrow Silent Auction—held from 9 am to 12:30 pm—will take home their favorites. All scarecrows were created by Davis school students, and all proceeds support Davis public school gardening and recycling programs.

The Pumpkin Patch, hosted by Soroptomist Club of Davis, is back by popular demand.

Music Matt will perform his high energy, fun music that caters to children (and is very parent-friendly) on the Oak Tree Deck; Peter Franklin Band will bring their crowd-pleasing Americana music. The children's area will feature hands-on crafts and science activities, including harvest headdresses and hair braiding by Lambda Omicron Xi, chemistry activities and demonstrations by the UC Davis Chemistry Club and Explorit Science Center, and kids craft activities offered by UC Davis La Raza Law Student Association and area 4-H Clubs. Animals include piglets from Woodland farmer Jim Neilson's farm, raptors from the California Raptor Center, and farm animals from Davis Senior High School's Future Farmers of America. Pony Ranch Parties hosts the pony rides, and Alex the Balloon Man and Dilly Dally the Clown will show off their balloon wizardry. Central Park Gardens will unveil their new caterpillar sculpture and host a plant sale (benefiting the gardens), while also offering eco-friendly gardening information. All visitors to the Gardens will receive free flower seeds to plant now for spring blooming.

This year's Fall Festival Food Faire will feature farm-fresh pizzas (a fundraiser for Davis Farm to School), fresh pumpkin pie by the slice with whipped cream, pumpkin ice cream, and seasonal delights prepared by Davis restaurateurs Fat Face and Monticello Seasonal Cuisine, plus tamales and burritos, Indian foods and fresh popped kettle corn.

 Spookomotive trains depart every hour on the hour, from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot at Front and “K” Streets in Old Sacramento. The diesel-powered “Spookomotive” pulls the whimsically decorated train (crawling with spiders, cobwebs and cornstalks), staffed by—what else? —a “skeleton crew.” Crawl aboard for a fun-filled, 40-minute, six-mile roundtrip ride along the Sacramento River!

TRICK-OR-TREAT IN NEVERLAND! It's three nights of Family Fun with Peter Pan and company at Fairytale Town's 22nd Annual Safe Super Halloween October 24, 25, 26, 2008 Sacramento-area children don't need any pinches of pixie dust to make Halloween fun last a little longer this year. All they need is a week's head start at Fairytale Town for an Escape to Neverland. For the 22nd straight year, Fairytale Town will turn its entire park into trick-or-treating territory during its popular Safe Super Halloween. Children can have their run of the park in a unique experience of Halloween fun. This year's Halloween theme is "Escape to Neverland," and it comes complete with live puppet shows throughout the evening from Puppet Art Theatre and plenty of hands-on activities for children of all ages, including some very special guests.

 Plus, with 17 different candy stations around the park, children--and parents-- can rest assured that there will be enough candy to go around. Costumes are, of course, strongly encouraged. "The theme this year is J.M. Barrie's Neverland, but you don't have to be a Peter Pan fan to have a good time," says John Lee, Fairytale Town's resident Theatre Arts Educator. "We'll have plenty of special surprises for everybody. Super Heroes, Princesses, Monsters and Cartoon Characters are all welcome. Variety is always a hit in our annual Costume Parade. " . Fairytale Town will be closing early these days in preparation for the event. Gates will close at 2 PM and the park will close at 3 PM. The park will reopen again for Safe Super Halloween at 5 PM.  The mission of Fairytale Town is to promote the imagination, creativity and education of children.
